Our twenty fifth entry in this blog is our trip to a butterfly sanctuary in Bohol. I forgot the name of this specific sanctuary but I think this one is the Simply Butterflies Conservation Center in Bilar (after some searching in google. hehehe). Bohol Butterfly Sanctuaries have been established by butterfly enthusiasts and are now gaining recognition. There are more or less 300 butterfly species native to the province and the sanctuaries are aiming to conserve and raise the butterfly population in the island.

Adult butterflies do not go to the bathroom. Caterpillars do all of the eating and almost continually defecate. Butterflies do not eat bugs or any other insects. Only the caterpillars do most of the eating. Well, that was a fun fact about these lovely insects.

Adult butterflies and moths eat only various liquids to maintain their water balance and energy stores with a few exceptions. Most of them sip flower nectar, but others get the necessary fluid from rotting fruits, sap flowers on trees, bird droppings, or animal dung. Here is the gang having fun with their photo area.

Some butterflies only live for 2 weeks! Generally, their life span is just two months. When butterflies cannot keep their temperatures at activity levels, when itβs cloudy, or at night they become quiescent or inactive. This quiescence, or resting, is not equivalent to human sleep. Butterflies always have their eyes open, since they do not have eyelids and they probably do not dream.Β Well, those are interesting facts about butterflies, don’t you think?
Here is the gang, somewhat fascinated about this red flower of which I am not sure what it is called. And also Ate Rei is busy looking at souvenir items. Sai is not in sight, hehehe… sleeping in the car, with me… I am thankful since I do not have to go inside this park with lots of butterflies. I hate flying insects, honestly. It just creeps me out! π

I’m glad Rei is not afraid of butterflies.
