Our 37th entry in this blog is our trip to Sanrio Puroland, an indoor theme park located in Tama New Town, Tokyo, Japan.  This is my second time to visit this themed park, the first time with my sister Karen way back in 2007 (I think? hehehe).  Here is a photo of the outer area of the indoor park where the building looks like a huge rainbow 🙂 Ate Rei is now excited because our very first stop inside the park is the restaurant. Eat! Eat! Eat!  As always, I forgot to take photos of the food, busy busy eating.

Opened on December 7, 1990, the theme park is run by the Sanrio company, and hosts various musicals, restaurants, attractions, and theme rides using popular characters such as Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, Jewelpet, and many more.  This is the first time that Ate Rei is not afraid of mascots.  She usually hides when there is a mascot like Jollibee, Hetty, and others.  But since she likes Hello Kitty, she managed to give the big headed kitten (hehe…) a high five.

There are three live theaters and one film theater. It also includes attraction areas themed to candy, ice cream, bread, juice, and chocolate factories. The area is quite huge, you can surely tour it around for just a couple of hours.  But if you need to line up for the different attractions, it will still take you a whole day. 🙂

It includes a boat ride similar to It’s a Small World (in Disneyland) in which Cinnamorroll leads riders to a party being held by Hello Kitty, passing through the homes of several Sanrio characters, including Keroppi’s pond and Badtz Maru’s cave. The ride is quite dark but the colorful presentation of the Sanrio characters will light up the watery path.

Visitors can also tour Kitty’s house which includes Renaissance style portraits of her family, fancy furniture and a bath-tub shaped like her face, and displays of her purses and jewelry. Her computer and television are also in her head shape. Here, Sai gets very comfortable on the floor with Hello Kitty’s piano, while Ate Rei loves to pose with the huge lipstick and face powder. 🙂

That was a fun day at Sanrio Puroland. Different seasons offer different attraction themes so we are sure to come back soon 🙂
