Our Trip to Mactan Air Base

Our 51st entry in this blog is our trip to Mactan Air Base in LapuLapu City, Cebu. This is Papa Dave’s hometown. He grew up here and they still live here, our Lola Daisy and Lolo Ver. But, this might be the last time we can visit their home since they are planning to move to Tagaytay by 2018. Even if we always visit Mactan Air Base, we seldom go to the wide area where the airplanes are displayed. But today, we did!

Mactan-Benito Ebuen Air Base was built by and was a facility of the United States Air Force until the American military bases left the country in 1991 and it became a Philippine Air Force base. Ate Rei and Sai are so happy to visit these old planes, run around them and inside them. This place is also a good spot for photo shoots.

We all enjoyed running around the field as the heat of the sun is not that hot during that day.  You can see Ate Rei dancing around while Sai is very excited to go to the parked jeepney.  There are lots of stationed mini huts around the field as this is known to them as the “Paskuhan sa Mactan Air Base” and usually lights up at night for all the people to visit and see.

It will soon be Christmas so there are several Christmas themed designs around the field where we all enjoyed taking photos.  Sai’s favorite is the jeepney, he enjoyed his role as the driver and always calls for us to ride at the back.  There are also big barrels that represents the three kings and a big Christmas Tree at the center of the field.

We enjoyed our day at Mactan Air Base as we always do.  We envy Papa Dave as this was his childhood playground and that is really a rare opportunity to play around real airplanes. 🙂
