Our Trip to Asakusa

Our 55th entry in this blog is our trip to Asakusa. We were confused this day as to where we go since we are sure that it will be a rainy day. Our options were Yokohama’s Sakuragicho or Tokyo’s Asakusa area. Well, since we have not yet visited any temple everytime we visit Japan, we proceed and selected Asakusa! Our day started with a bright not so sunny but cloudy weather. Ate Rei, Sai, and Papa Dave are all excited to meet Tito RC’s family and join them in our week long Japan adventure. Here we all are… eating our lunch after the Sunday Mass at Yotsuya, and waiting for the rain to burst. hehe…

It was a very wet walk indeed, heavy rains did not stop until evening. But still, we managed to arrive at Sensoji, a very popular Buddhist temple, built in the 7th century.

The temple is approached via the Nakamise, a shopping street that has been providing temple visitors with a variety of traditional, local snacks and tourist souvenirs for centuries.” (https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3004.html) Sensoji temple has been Asakusa’s main attraction.

Our next stop in Asakusa is the 634 meter tall Tokyo Skytree, a twenty minute walk across the Sumida River. But we did not walk due to the heavy rains, we simply rode a train and get off at the next station. We explored the malls under the Tokyo Sky Tree. Ate Rei and Sai, as well as Ate Rai Rai and baby Rachel were all happy to see different cartoon characters and japanese anime characters on display.

After exploring the malls, we ate ice cream, went out in the rain to take a picture of the tall sky tree, and went home ready for tomorrow’s place to visit.

We will surely be back in Asakusa and make sure the sun is up and shining!
