Our Trip to Tama Zoo

Our 56th entry in this blog is our trip to Tama Zoo in Hino, Tokyo, Japan.  I think this is already my 5th time to visit this zoo since I live nearby during my working days in Japan.  But for Ate Rei and Sai, this is their 2nd time. Picture below shows the first time they visited the place back in 2015. Look how cute the kids back then 🙂

Our first stop is the Insectarium.  The main building is modeled after a dragonfly, which contains exhibits relating to the life of insects. The butterfly house nearby is a large greenhouse that visitors can enter to observe various species of butterflies and grasshoppers all year round.

Our next stop is the African Garden/Zone.  Unfortunately, the famous Lion Bus is being renewed as of this time. So I think we should go back here by the time it will be completed. The Lion Bus enables visitors to view lions in a safari atmosphere.

This area also have the Savannah, a large enclosure featuring giraffes, zebras, oryx, ostriches, and pelicans.  And of course, Sai’s favorite, the world’s largest land animal, the African Elephant.

The Tama Zoological Park is owned by the government of Tokyo Metropolis and has 52 hectares to show its animals moving in a more free and natural environment.  Here is little Sai always happy to see something to drive on.  Wish we can all ride in this bus to explore all areas in this very wide zoo.

One of the highlights of our visit are the Koala Bears.  This is the first time I saw them awake and eating. hehe 🙂 Everytime I visit here, they are always asleep.  We also love our encounter with the big Orangutan.  Ate Rei and Sai are really brave to face the big one and be near the Orangutan which looks huge but friendly.

And here are more animals we saw in the zoo. What a busy day!

The group is happy to have walked and see the animals we rarely see.  We also have here the families of Tito RC and Tito Mellerz along with their kids.
