Our 67th entry in this blog is our trip to Hakone Open Air Museum. This is Ate Rei and Sai’s second time, the first one in 2016, 2 years ago. As always, we enjoyed the vast space of this unique museum. The first time was also in November 2016, Autumn season. And now, still Autumn season. Hehe. Let’s see if we can visit this place in Spring, Winter (too cold, brrr), or Summer (too hot, no thanks!). Here we have the group including the family of Tito RC. So we have Tita Jo, RaiRai and baby Rachel.

One of the interesting exhibit here is the big face of a woman on a pool of tears? Just guessing. La pleureuse is one of the unforgettable sculpture in the Hakone Open Air Museum, it is a woman’s face with one of her cheeks lying on the bed of the fountain. The plant acts like her hair. You can clearly see the tear marks running down her cheeks into the pool.

The outdoor sculpture park has various arts and sculptures. This is the first outdoor, open-air museum of art in Japan. The kids are all so happy to run around and breathe fresh air and always wondering what this sculpture all about. 🙂

One of the big sculpture that Ate Rei, and Sai loves is the biggest sunny side up egg they found along the route. They are so happy to jump on top of the soft egg yolk and lying on top of the whole egg.

One of our favorites, but I was not able to take a photo inside, is the tower Symphonic Structure designed by Gabriel Loire. It is one of the amazing structure at the Museum. The structure stands 18 meters tall and is entirely made of Steel and Glass, with a 2-way spiral staircase in the middle. The structure is topped by a deck providing the view of Museum and the mountains.

Fronting this tall tower is a snack bar, a perfect place to eat and rest for a while. Here we have the kids eating snacks and happily talking about kids stuff. 🙂

“The Picasso collection is the key attraction of the Hakone open air Museum. The Picasso building is a must visit place, it is packed with more than 300 paintings, sculpture, ceramics, and art of Picasso. Pablo Picasso was the Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and a poet.” -http://trip-n-travel.com/listicle/7263/

Woods of nest, an architectural interlocked wooden nest specially designed for children to have fun. It is designed and built without the use of bolts and nuts and is completely safe. Here we have Ate Rei having a hard time taking a ride on a net ball and little Sai somewhere on top of the net exploring by himself.

We tried to take a photo of ourselves as seen in the photo bellow using a sphere hanging above the pathway. “Sefra con Sefra means a sphere within a sphere, it is a bronze sculpture by Italian sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro. There are two spheres, one is placed at the top where the four roads intersect and another is lying on the ground. In the Image, you can see a sphere placed at the top of four pillars.” -http://trip-n-travel.com/listicle/7263/

And that concludes our roughly 2 hours of walking in the open air museum. Lovely day indeed! 🙂
