Our Trip to Peoples Park In The Sky

Our 78th entry in this blog is our trip to Peoples Park In The Sky, often simply called People’s Park and originally named Palace In The Sky, a historical urban park in Tagaytay, Cavite.  The place is not well-maintained but still a lot of people come here to see the whole city at the vantage point of Tagaytay.  The view of the city and of Taal Lake is undeniably breathtaking. 🙂

The park was converted from an incomplete mansion, known as the palace in the sky. It was built during the Marcos era to host the visit of US President Ronald Reagan. Work stopped when Reagan canceled his visit.  Construction in the mansion began in 1981, the year I was born, so it is basically as old as me. hehe 🙂

The Shrine of Our Lady, Mother of Fair Love is located within the People’s Park in the Sky.  “During the construction of the Palace in the Sky in 1981, workers were unable to blast a huge rock containing the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary with several dynamite blasts. The rock was left intact, after the discovery of the image.” — wikipedia.org/wiki/People’s_Park_in_the_Sky.  Below is the chapel at the park where Ate Rei and Papa D went up and have some good poses (though it’s too far for my camera to capture).

After looking at the wonderful view of the Taal Lake and breathing Tagaytay’s fresh air from this mountain’s peak (Mt. Gonzales), we are ready to head to another place.  But lastly, we squeezed ourselves in this pineapple structure for a fun family photo.

Until next time Peoples Park!  I really really hope you will be renovated or at least be cleaned.  We will surely visit again soon 🙂
