Our 110th entry in this blog is our trip to watch a fun puppet and magic show by Wanlu. This is everyone’s first time and this is in coordination with Ate Rei and Sai’s school event for Christmas month. The show started with the school’s very own puppetry club showcasing their talents with the famous Philippine fable “The monkey and the turtle”, popularized by our very own national hero Jose Rizal.

Now the Wanlu show starts. “Not many may be familiar with the name Wanlu, nor his occupation with puppets, but we have still to meet one whose heart and soul is as dedicated to his art as him. Born Juancho Lunaria, he soon adapted the abbreviated name of Wanlu when he decided to enter the performing arts as party host and magician in 1988.”[1]

That was really fun to see. Our lolos and lolas are happy to see their idols once again: Michael Jackson and Elvis. Ate Rei and Sai’s favorite is baby Bryan. That baby is really funny and witty. There were also parts of the show where audiences gets to participate in the act. Which makes it funnier when you know the people on stage. haha. π

Wanlu’s famous puppet is Nicolo. At first he looks scary, hehe… but when he starts to talk, you will enjoy every word he says. Wanlu was the winner of a popular TV show named Talentadong Pinoy. “Over the years, Wanlu continued perfecting his craft, including the making of puppets as well as joining various organizations like the ASEAN Puppetry Association (APA) based in Indonesia, the International Ventriloquist Society (IVS) where he is Philippine correspondent, the Samahan Ng Mga Papetir ng Pilipinas (SPP) where he is board member and many others.”[1] We are glad to meet this kind of talent π

The show also have performances of the school’s rondalla group and the children’s choir where Ate Rei is a proud member π

And that was our fun time watching Wanlu and his puppets. We really hope to meet him again soon and watch more of his magic and puppet shows.
