Our Trip to Enoshima Island

Our 122nd entry in this blog is our trip to Enoshima Island in Kanagawa, Japan. This is Ate Rei and Sai’s first time to visit. As for me and Papa Dave, we have come here a lot of times already. Most of our friends back in my working years of 2007 to 2012 lived here. πŸ™‚

Above (upper right) is the train station for Katase-Enoshima, walking distance to the Enoshima Island. Enoshima is a small offshore island, about 4 km in circumference. It is part of the mainland city of Fujisawa, and is linked to the Katase section of that city by a 389-metre-long bridge.

Here we have Ate Rei and Papa Dave ordering some taco-kind of chips-tasting food. One is made of shrimp, and the other is octopus. It is Ate Rei’s first time to taste it, and of course, she loves it. πŸ™‚

Information from wiki says that “Benzaiten, the goddess of music and entertainment, is enshrined on the island. The island in its entirety is dedicated to the goddess, who is said to have caused it to rise from the bottom of the sea in the sixth century.” There are several Jinjas and Shrines here dedicated to the worship of the kami Benten.

Walking around Enoshima Island is easy, do not be afraid of the steep stairs, they do have escalators for a fee πŸ™‚ But if you do not want to miss any historical shrines and places, then better climb some stairs.

Enoshima is a very touristy place. Lots of food, drinks, and souvenirs along its narrow paths. Here we got a good overlooking seat for our pizza and pasta. After the long walks, it is just good to reward these kids with a food they chose. πŸ™‚

We continued our walks along the sea. We miss the beach in Cebu! It is difficult to swim here because the water is freezing. grrr… But look at the scenery. Very calming indeed. πŸ™‚

A lot of people are here by the sea. Under the not-so-hot-sun. But we saw several small fishes and small plants by these areas, so we continued walking around it. But it made us very tired to go back up to where we came from, so for us to be back near the train station, we decided to take the boat ride. πŸ™‚

And that was our wonderful trip to the glorious Enoshima Island. We wish to go back soon when it is no longer Winter. hehehe πŸ™‚
