Our Trip to Harbor View Park

Our 141st entry in this blog is our trip to Harbor View Park in Yokohama, Japan. In Japanese it is called, Minato no mieru oka koen. It is our first time to visit this park, though we always visit this place to eat sushi nearby. 🙂

Harbor View Park is a hill park that the view of Yokohama Port and Yokohama Bay Bridge is seen.

We have here an old structure with a windmill. I forgot to take photo of its explanation of what was the purpose of this small building. hehe. My bad.

Perched on top of a steep hill and located several minutes walk away from Motomachi-Chukagai Station, this park was opened to the public in 1962 and occupies the site of a former British Army Barracks and Consulate. Although the Barracks are now gone, this park is home to many western style buildings including the ‘Jiro Osaragi’ Memorial Museum and the site of a former British consulate which has now been designated a cultural property.

We enjoyed this day since it is not too cold and the sun is a little bit shy. There are the rose garden and forests, and the remains of French army are in the forests, ooops, I forgot to take photos of the forests.

One of the nearby museum is the Osaragi Jiro Memorial Museum where you can see a collection of this Japanese writer’s books and personal effects.

We thought this was a Sakura Tree from afar, but as we got nearer, it looks like a Magnolia one. Not sure though. hehe 🙂 The shrubs with pink flowers are also very nice to look at.

Walking trails run through the park and there is the observatory at the center of the park. This is like the outside part of the forest already. The trees are so nice!

And look at these lovely flowers in different colors. I always spend most of my time taking photos of these 🙂 And since this has been a lazy day, we just walked around the park after our bellies are full from eating sushi. I have more time to take pictures while everyone is just chilling out 🙂

And that was our walk in this beautiful Harbor View Park. We have found here a rose garden, a large fountain, the British House, the 111 Yamate House, the Osaragi Jiro Memorial Hall, and the observatory place overlooking the harbor. 🙂
