Our 186th entry in this blog is our first time trip to Umeda Sky Building in Osaka, Japan. This is very near our place of stay in Osaka, the Bijou Suites Sorriso. And the same building where we are going to ride our bus back to Yokohama later. π

The Umeda Sky Building is the nineteenth-tallest (as of this writing) building in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, and one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. It consists of two 40-story towers that connect at their two uppermost stories, with bridges and an escalator crossing the wide atrium-like space in the center. It is located in Umeda district of Kita-ku, Osaka.

According to wiki, the building was originally conceived in 1988 as the “City of Air” project, which planned to create four interconnected towers in northern Osaka. Eventually, the Japan economic bubble of the 1980s burst and brought the number of towers down to two.

We went to the tower very early that is why there is not much crowd at this time. We went directly to the elevator that will lead us to the 35th floor.

After the elevator ride, we were greeted by the very long escalator ride. π

There were exhibits about (I forgot, maybe a certain soap brand) some mini tents with colorful displays inside. This 170 m (568 ft) building was designed by Hiroshi Hara. It was constructed by Takenaka Corporation and was completed in 1993.

The building features a rooftop observatory, The Floating Garden Observatory. This is such a rare sight. And the clouds this day is also dramatic π

This is the Lumi Deck. This is a specially reserved space for lovers in the 173-meter high building. When the lights come on in town, and stars twinkle in the sky, the Lumi Deck surrounds the couple in gentle light. You can secure you Heart Lock, the promise of a loving twosome, at the “Fence of Vows”, installed around the Lumi Deck.

We can see the escalator from up here. This is also popular in Osaka, the photo spot see-through escalator that goes from the 35th to the 39th floor.

We are so lucky to have this weather today. Google said it will rain this morning but I am so glad it did not. The sun is up and the air is cool π

These are the exhibit mini tents I showed earlier. I had the chance of taking a photo of each of them as I was intrigued what was inside them. It’s just a small batch tub, surrounded by flowers, and mini toys.

It is now time for us to say goodbye to Osaka. But we will head to Nara first before going back to Yokohama. Until we meet again Umeda Sky π
