Our Trip to Harry Potter Cafe

Our 215th entry in this blog is our first time trip to Harry Potter Cafe in Akasaka, Tokyo, Japan. Ate Rei is one huge Potterhead! She is so excited for this day and wants to try all foods at the cafe, not possible dude! haha. When we arrived at Akasaka Station, we were immediately greeted with a themed, magical staircase, all designed for Harry Potter fans.

I was afraid the pictures are going to move. hehe. They also have this huge Time Turner displayed in the middle of the staircase. The Time-Turner is from ‘Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban’, the passageway is decorated with 42 portraits of famous witches and wizards. 🙂

The cafe accepts reservations only, and no walk-ins, at least for now. We arrived earlier than scheduled, just because we were excited. So we toured around the area first and made sure we are hungry before settling in the cafe.

I used to go to Akasaka for the Philippine Airlines office. hehe. When I was still working in Japan, it was still necessary to drop by their office for ticket pickup and cash payments. The station has been changed a lot. Big buildings are now surrounding it.

This is the outside area of the cafe. We were hoping to take a peek at what’s inside. Our big girl potterhead Ate Rei is of course, wearing her Hogwarts jacket for the day.

This plaza, the Harry Potter plaza at Akasaka, has been renovated to fit the theme. It feels like you are walking along the modern streets of Diagon Alley.

There is also an Asian production of ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ with a Japanese cast. It would be great to watch this show but it is available only in Japanese.

It’s almost time for us to go inside the cafe. I think the space is very small though, I just hope the food is yummy, we are so hungry!

Finally, we are in. The place is really small. But full of Harry Potter stuffs and details. You do not mind waiting for you food as there are lots of themed designs worth talking about. 🙂

The food is great. We each have themed plates. Ate Rei got the Slytherin plate, Sai with his Ravenclaw plate, I have the Hufflepuff plate, and Papa Dave got the Gryffindor plate. The soup is very delicious! We sometimes exchange plates as we wanted to take a bit of other team’s meal too. 🙂

We were just quiet, eating our food, and talking about the details of the cafe, and where in the movies that a design appeared. It is now time for some dessert.

We ordered Hedwig in Tiramisu. Ate Rei doesn’t want to destroy the design and wants to take it home! It was very tasty and flavorful. I want to eat all of it! 🙂 After our meal at the cafe, we went around again and went inside the souvenir shop. It is also a small shop and can get easily crowded. But the items are so nice and makes a good addition to our Harry Potter trinkets.

And that was our quick tour of the Harry Potter Cafe in Akasaka. We will surely go back and order the other meals we have not yet tried. Until then! 🙂
