Our Trip to Harry Potter Studio

Our 233rd entry in this blog is our first time trip to Harry Potter Studio in Tokyo, Japan. This is called Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter, where you get to tour behind the scenes of the movies.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo is a walkthrough-style entertainment facility, which takes visitors behind the scenes of the Harry Potter film series.

Opened in 2023, the facility is built on the grounds of the former Toshimaen amusement park, which closed in 2020, a 20 minute train ride from Ikebukuro and Shinjuku in central Tokyo.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo is similar to the one in London, which opened in 2012, and does not feature any rides like the typical theme park.

Instead, visitors explore the world of Harry Potter on foot through iconic film sets. The Great Hall is the central gathering place in Hogwarts and possibly one of the most recognized sets in the film series. Visitors who step through the grand doors can discover the intricate details of this opulent hall.

Digital guides, which further enhance the self-guided experience with narrations in Japanese and English, are available for an additional fee.

I am so impressed with the moving paintings and the actual moving stairs. Feels like you really are in Hogwarts

The main attractions in the Studio Tour are the iconic sets, which recreate the magic and atmosphere of the movies, including one which is exclusive to Tokyo.

The sets offer plenty of photo opportunities and activities, such as green screen experiences like riding a broomstick, becoming a Hogwarts portrait and stepping into the crowd of a Quidditch match.

We are now heading to the forbidden forest. One of Ate Rei’s favorite places here in this studio. It is really creepy.

Also known as the Dark Forest, visitors to this set can explore the forest, which gets more forbidding the deeper you venture in, and its animals and magical creatures. Visitors will be able toe experience some scenes like it happened in the movies.

Hagrid’s hut is also very nice. The details are amazing.

We rested for a while and got ourselves some popcorns and butterbear. 🙂

Platform 9 3/4 is the iconic train platform from where students board the Hogwarts Express train to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The set recreates the platform as well as the locomotive, and provides plenty of photo opportunities.

A number of food and drink establishments can be found at the Studio Tour, offering visitors a varied menu, including Butterbeer, the popular wizarding drink. Additionally, there are also two shops, where visitors can look forward to purchasing Wizarding World products. The shops can be accessed only by those with valid tickets.

Exclusive to Tokyo, the full-size Ministry of Magic set recreates the Atrium, the entry and exit points of the Ministry Headquarters. Large fireplaces in the set allow visitors to experience traveling to the Ministry like an employee.

This is also a very interesting place. You can see the actual sizes of the characters in the set. The dragons, Hagrid’s half-brother Grawp, and even the actual size of Dobby.

Diagon Alley is the main shopping street where Hogwarts students purchased their school supplies. The shop windows display intricate and elaborate artworks, which visitors can inspect at a close range.

For the Studio Tour Tokyo, the Diagon Alley movie set has been rebuilt using the same techniques as the original set, with crew members who worked on the movies.

The Hogwarts Castle is incredible. It might look small in this photo but it actually is really big.

The Studio shop is home to a large collection of Wizarding World products including items exclusive to Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo. Access to the Studio Tour shops is only available to ticket holders.

Our little Sai is also happy to visit his Ate Rei’s favorite movies of all time. Even if he is not a die-hard fan himself, he knows all characters and magic spells. 🙂

The food hall is glorious!
And that’s our quick tour of the Harry Potter Studio. We hope to be back soon and will surely spend more time on each set. 🙂
