Our Trip to (do) Firefly Watching

Our 310th entry in our digital diary is our first time trip to watch fireflies in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. We just arrived from Cebu on this day, and our very first activity is to do this exciting tour to see fireflies in their own homes. πŸ™‚

This boat is docked by the Baywalk at Puerto Princesa which just happens to be a 5-minute drive (we rented a van) from our AirBnb house. We are a total of 9 pax, and we were grouped together with another family, also with kids.

The sea is so calm, not a wave to be felt and seen. πŸ™‚

You’ll be taken on a boat tour through the mangrove forests, which are known to be a prime habitat for fireflies. As darkness falls, you’ll witness the magical spectacle of thousands of fireflies illuminating the trees, creating a breathtaking display. This is as per brochure. hehe.

We got lots of pictures in going there as we really enjoyed the calm boat ride. The superb sunset view is very dramatic and it’s our first time to go over a boat like this and stayed on its roof. πŸ™‚

Isn’t that amazing? πŸ™‚ The boat didn’t rock at all as there are no waves. Not that much but some tiny waves sometimes. hehe.

Actually, most of our photos are from the ride going to the mangrove area since there is still sunset lights. We need to wait for it to get dark before we can clearly see the fireflies.

So we just enjoyed the views of the sea. Watch Ate Rei do some dramatic poses! haha. πŸ™‚

We were divided into 2 groups. We are the first ones to go to the mangrove area and witness the fireflies. While the other family in the tour is taking their dinner inside the bigger boat. We were transferred to a smaller yacht as it is much more quiet compared to a pump boat.

It is really very very difficult to take photos of the fireflies as it is super dark. It really needs a professional camera as phone cameras cannot do any justice of it. The view and sites are amazing. It really looks like Christmas lights in the trees. And the tour guide told us that they would shine more when they are threatened or when they know that there might be a predator. It’s a way of telling the predator that this is how many of us! We are so many that you should be afraid. So maybe they heard us coming, and they just shine their way! πŸ™‚

While the other group is touring the mangrove, it is now our turn for the dinner feast! This is indeed a lovely start of our visit to Palawan. This is the kid’s first time to be in this lovely province. πŸ™‚
