Our Trip to Baker’s Hill

Our 318th entry in our digital diary is our trip to Baker’s Hill in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. This is our second to the last stop in our City Tour itinerary (the last place is a souvenir shop that I forgot to take photos with. hehe).

Originally a simple bakery famed for its hopia and crinkles, Baker’s Hill has blossomed into a vibrant park-like attraction featuring meticulously landscaped gardens, whimsical life-sized statues, and recreational areas.

Now, it’s a mini-theme park with colorful figurines (think cartoon characters like Shrek and ‘super’ Snow White), playgrounds, bird enclosures, and Instagram-ready visuals.

The original bakeshop still serves up beloved favorites like hopia (including monggo and ube variants), crinkles, pianono, brownies, cakes, and more.

You’ll also find snack bars, a restaurant called Baker’s Kitchen offering pizzas, seafood, and desserts, and even dishes like Tamilok for the adventurous foodie.

Kids and the young at heart will love the playground, mini-zoo (including peacocks, mynas, and other eye-catching birds), and themed displays scattered throughout the gardens.

A viewing deck offers gorgeous views of the city, coastline, and even Honda Bay—perfect for a romantic or peaceful moment.

Ate Rei and Papa are really enjoying these playground facilities. hehe. 🙂

Not just them but Hearty and Sai tried all the playground areas. 🙂

Entry is free, with the owners encouraging visitors to keep the place clean and enjoy its beauty responsibly.

Baker’s Hill began its journey in 1967 as a modest bakery, originally established by the owner’s mother‑in‑law.

As the bakery’s popularity—and success—grew, the owners gradually transformed the property into a charming park-like attraction. This expansion unfolded over decades, adding mini-gardens, playful life-size figurines, and other whimsical touches.

The site has been under continuous development for more than a decade. New attractions and areas have been steadily added, leading to the Baker’s Hill we know today.

Contrary to rumors about external investors, the park is owned and managed by the Flores family. It’s a privately run venue, and the matriarch, Susan Flores, has been credited as the creative force driving its unique transformation. Susan Flores is actually my aunt. haha! They just have the same name.

By evolving from a simple bakery into a whimsically designed park, not charged by entrance fee and thoughtfully landscaped, Baker’s Hill offers much more than just delicious treats.

And of course we ended our visit with snacks of the famous Baker’s Hill Hopia. 🙂 We (not including the kids) actually visited here last 2011, that’s 14 years ago. And the place has got larger and wider. Hope we can visit again next time. 🙂
