Our Trip to Tokyo Dome City

Our 340th entry in our digital diary is our trip to Tokyo Dome City. This was built on the former Korakuen Stadium, which was dismantled and rebuilt in the 1980s into today’s huge entertainment complex. Tokyo Dome City is famous for its roller coaster and Ferris Wheel. The “Big O Ferris wheel” has no central axis, making it the world’s first of its kind, and the Thunder Dolphin roller coaster even passes through its center.

We usually come here to dine at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant after going to Sunday Mass. But for today, we decided to try on another restaurant: the Cheese + Doria.

The cheese is yummy and the meal is so hot, perfect for winter. 🙂 Tokyo Dome has lots of restaurants, shops, and attractions all in one place. The entire complex, including the dome, hotel, rides, and spa, welcomes tens of millions of visitors annually.

But since it is too cold to ride the coasters, we just hid inside our favorite room, the UFO catchers! hehe 🙂

Tokyo Dome City Attractions is free to enter, meaning you only pay for rides, unlike most traditional theme parks. We stayed until night time to witness their Christmas lightup/illumination. 🙂

Completed in 1988, the dome replaced Korakuen Stadium and became famous for its egg-like shape and massive 55,000-seat capacity. I have never been inside this dome. There are lots of games and concerts in here but I think it’s too expensive for my budget. hehe.

The complex is surrounded by four train stations and five major lines, making it one of Tokyo’s easiest big attractions to access.

Tokyo Dome City isn’t just an amusement park. It packs in: a natural hot spring spa (LaQua), a huge shopping mall, Tokyo Dome Hotel, indoor roller skating, bowling, bouldering, and one of Tokyo’s largest indoor petting zoos. And we love it here specially when they light up at night.

Tokyo Dome City is one of Tokyo’s biggest entertainment hubs, an all‑in‑one place with an amusement park, the famous Tokyo Dome stadium, a spa, a hotel, and tons of dining and shopping options. It now welcomes around 38–40 million visitors every year, proving how lively and loved it is. Hope to be back someday! 🙂
