Our 349th entry in our digital diary is our first time to join a Stargazing Tour by Picchio in Harunire Terrace in Karuizawa, Nagano, Japan. My photos are not great as it is very dark in the area, but still good photos to remember our experience.

Ideal Stargazing Spot: Held atop Karuizawa’s ~1,000 m high plateau, the tour benefits from clear winter air and high clear-sky rates—making it perfect for astronomical observation.

One-Hour Evening Experience: The tour runs from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. and lasts approximately one hour.

Cozy Comfort and Guidance: Guests sit on benches equipped with cushions and blankets, and are guided through constellation stories in both Japanese and basic English.

Hot Drinks Included: Participants choose between spice-infused hot wine (for adults) or hot cocoa (for children and drivers), served before stargazing to enhance the experience.

Constellation Keepsake: Each guest receives a palm-sized “Constellation Card” depicting the winter night sky—perfect for jotting down myths or memories.

We love the experience. True darkness, real stars, and a moment of awe for Ate Rei and Sai, who rarely see the night sky this way in the city. Hope we can still join tours like this. 🙂
