Our 198th entry in this blog is our first time visit to Yokohama’s Sky Garden on top of the Landmark Tower in Sakuragicho. And today is Papa Dave’s birthday, meaning, it is also Kodomo-no-Hi or Children’s Day in Japan, meaning, Ate Rei and Sai can get up the observation deck for free! Yay! 🙂

The building stands at a height of 296.3 meters (972 feet), and is the tallest building in Japan until 2014, but is still the tallest building in Kanagawa as of today. Landmark Tower is now the 3rd tallest (after Abeno Harukas and Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower). Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Tower, both of which are taller, do not technically qualify as buildings.

Its 392,885 square meters of floor space over 70 floors up into the sky and 3 floors down into the basement include shops, restaurants, and offices.

The Sky Garden is a 360-degree observation deck on the building’s 69th floor. For ¥1,000, visitors get access to stunning views of the area. The Minato Mirai area itself is worth seeing from a unique vantage point, but the height of the tower allows for views of all of Yokohama, most of Tokyo, many of the region’s farther mountains, and even Mt. Fuji. -japantravel.com

To get to the Sky Garden, visitors get to ride on the Landmark Tower’s very fast elevators. They were constructed as the world’s fastest, and reach speeds of 45 km/h (41 feet per second). It takes about 40 seconds to reach the Sky Garden on the 69th floor.

There are also some exhibits in this observatory. Depends on what they are advertising as of the moment. Most of the time, anime events and art exhibits.
This is the perfect place to watch the sunset.

And that is our quick visit to Yokohama’s Sky Garden in Landmark Tower. We are now ready to look for a place to eat. Yey! Hopefully we can get to visit this observatory again. 🙂
